XC Skiing & Snowshoeing

Here in the mountains near "Katahdin", we still have real Northern winters. Snowfall is heavy December through March, lakes freeze solid and deep, and we usually avoid the rainy thaws that are increasingly common just to the south of us. And, best of all, there's relatively little snowmobile traffic.

XC Skiers & Snowshoers have unrestricted access to an enormous roadless backcountry preserve of old growth forests, mountains and frozen lakes. There are many miles of broken and unbroken trails to explore, and several miles of groomed ski trails near camp.

Nahmakanta is also an excellent ice fishing lake for brook trout, lake trout, salmon, white perch and cusk. Some of the largest fish of the year are caught in winter, including lake trout up to 15 pounds.

Important Note: There is NO PLOWED ROAD into our camp. Access is by ski, dogsled, or snowmobile only along an 8 mile trail. (see "Travel Directions)
